Theatre Skills and Showcase
What: Two performing arts experts have partnered with The Therapy Farm staff to provide an outdoor theatre camp for children with any type of special need and for peer mentors. Kids will have the opportunity to engage in theatre games, learn performance skills, and participate in a showcase on the last day of camp. Theatre is a great way for kids to build confidence, communication, creativity, social skills, and to have fun! All of this takes place on our therapeutic farm setting among nature and animals with our therapy staff present to support your child in group participation.
Who: Regular participation is open to children ages 6-13 years old with any type of special need. Peer mentorship is open to children ages 6-15 years old. Peer mentors are kids who are able to follow rules well, navigate outdoor environments without difficulty, and understand how to treat others kindly (at their expected developmental level for their age). They will get to participate in all group activities while modeling skills that other participants are growing in. It is also a great opportunity for peer mentors to build understanding and empathy for others with different abilities than themselves.
When: Four-day camp May 29-June 1. 10am-12pm daily. Friends and family members are welcome to attend the showcase performance on the last day of camp.
Price: The regular participant fee is $25 per hour for $200 total. The peer mentor fee is $15 per hour for $120 total. Peer mentor spots are limited and require approval before registration is complete.
Program Leaders
Byron Mrowiec, Technical Director
Byron has always had a love for theatre - often making his siblings perform plays with him when they were growing up. Now, Byron is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design and Production at the University of Illinois. Although Byron works professionally in theatre production, he also loves performing and is always looking for opportunities to act and dance. Byron is very excited to share his love of theatre at The Therapy Farm!
Elizabeth Mrowiec, Film Production
Elizabeth is super passionate about theater and storytelling! All throughout her middle and high school years she was heavily involved with her theater group at her church. She also started acting in musicals in 8th grade and has continued to this day. Elizabeth will complete her degree May 2024 in Film and video Production at Cornerstone University. After she graduates, Elizabeth has accepted a contract to work with Bay View Musical Theatre. Her long-term plans are to work on-set for movies and TV, hoping to become an Assistant Director one day. She is excited to partner with The Therapy Farm and help others discover their love for the performing arts too!
